Here we go: we currently have Blue Shield's 2013 "PPO 1500" plan (named assumedly because it has a $1,500 per person deductible), which costs us $954 per month, which we consider a ton of money - basically, a good size mortgage payment in most parts of the country (but not California). The replacement plan for 2014 from Blue Shield will cost us approximately $1,780 per month with a $2,000 per person deductible - a good size mortgage even in California. This sucks!
Note that even at this late date, we are still awaiting other possible options from our Health Insurance Broker at Morris & Garritano, as there may be other options available. Stay tuned.
*****12/6/2013: Quick update. I continue to read in newspapers and hear from our President and his friends that one of the major reasons for the failure of the roll-out of ObamaCare is the lack of support from Republicans. Huh? Please, could somebody tell me how a bill that passed without a single Republican vote (and is not supported by Republicans) is now failing (in whole or in part) because those evil Republicans are not promoting and cheerleading a bill they did not vote for and do not like? Please tell me how? Thank-you.
*****12/6//2013: We continue to pester Morris and Garritano to offer us some options for our health insurance for 2014. Nothing. Crickets. The lack of options are attributed to ObamaCare.
*****11/21/2013: We have kept in close contact with our health insurance broker at Morris & Garritano (a highly recommended company) because our GROUP insurance with Blue Shield got cancelled because of Obamacare (see letter below), and we are anxious about being able to find a new plan before the old one expires on January 1, 2014. Basically, here's what the agent had to say: the problem is that the health insurance market does not yet have something for us; across the board things are delayed with the insurance carriers due to all the Health Care Reform stuff that is approaching in 2014. In other words, Obamacare caused the GROUP PPO plan we had to be cancelled, and ObamaCare is causing so much chaos in the small group market that they have not launched a sufficient number of plans yet for us to start picking from them. When will they be ready? Who knows. Normally, the plans are available for review by the end of November. Oh joy! I can't wait to see what will happen next.
*****Update 11/5/2013: Note that my Blue Shield of California Health Insurance Plan was a GROUP plan and not an individual plan. It was a group plan for our law firm that got cancelled. You will hear on the news that it is individual plans ONLY that are getting cancellation notices like the one that I got. At least in my case (and I can't be the only one), the plan that got cancelled was an group plan issued to employers. Don't believe the lies...
The Obama administration told us over and over again that they would be (and are) the most transparent presidential administration ever. Yet, when asked how many people have signed up at their HealthCare.gov website to purchase insurance on the exchange, they refuse to answer. Isn't it our right as taxpaying citizens to know these things? After all, it does not affect national security, does it? Obama's not running for re-election, so crummy results should not affect the Presidents re-election efforts, so how about telling us? Yeah, just what I thought - not a chance in h*ll!
*****Update 10/29/2013: An image that will go down in infamy....wonder who she is. Here's an article on why she was removed. Anyways, my understanding is that they opened the website on 10/1/2013, and they took her image down (because it was too degrading to her?) on 10/28/2013. Healthcare.gov
*****Update 10/25/2013: ObamaCare is a convoluted mess. Remember Speaker Nancy Pelosi's war cry of "You have to pass Obamacare before you can find out what in ObamaCare!". We are now finding out more everyday about what is in Obamacare. And its not pretty. Bottom line is that no matter how messed up it is, we are stuck with it.
Prediction: Obama will NEVER abandon Obamacare no matter how bad or how destructive it is to our once world-leading medical system. Instead, the federal government in Washington DC will double-down on Obamacare and throw ever-more money at it to make this turd sing the star-spangled banner, so help me G*d. We are stuck with it, because its NOT a health delivery program, but a political wealth re-distribution system. There will be no repeal of Obamacare, just like there is never a repeal of any other government program. Obamacare is a bumpy road to single-payer healthcare; i.e., Medicare for everyone. Sigh.
*****Update 10/8/13: "Covered California", our state's version of the Health Care Exchanges mandated under ObamaCare, are up and running. Wonder how they are doing - let's take a quick look. Here's an article in the LA Times dated 10/2/2013 "California exchange overstated its Web traffic for Obamacare launch".
*****Update 10/4/2013: My post for ObamaCare got way too long (you can find it if you dig down through the timeline to the right). Time to abandon my old ObamaCare thread and start a new one - this one!
I was inspired to make this post by the letter I got in the mail today from Blue Shield of California. The letter informs me that they are canceling my current health insurance when it expires - due to ObamaCare (or as they say in the letter, the Affordable Care Act, or ACA).
Feel free to read the letter below by clicking on it to enlarge. Yes, I'm thrilled. The prez insisted that "If I like my current medical insurance, I can keep it" - NOT! Barry just missed a slam dunk, and it bounced all the way back to half court for a fast break for the other team. Not how you win in basketball, or in politics.
Idle promises with no basis in fact. Real people. Real results. All bad. ObamaCare. Drink deep, my friends. Enjoy the poison.
